Are coffee wood dog chews safe? What a buyer should check

No chew is safe in every situation, so before stocking coffee wood a buyer should check four things: what the raw material is, how moisture and mold are controlled, what laboratory evidence exists, and which export documents come with the goods.

WINVN INT CO., LTD is a manufacturer of coffee wood dog chews in Vietnam, working with two coffee wood factories in Dak Lak and Gia Lai provinces. This page sets out what we can show you on each of those four points, and, just as plainly, what we cannot.

1. What the raw material is

The raw material is the trunk of Robusta coffee trees aged 20 years and more, which farmers in the Central Highlands remove when they replant.

We make no claim about how any chew behaves under chewing, and we do not describe any chew as splinter-free. Test samples yourself before you set a listing.

2. Moisture, mold and insects

Our controls are simple, and we state them exactly:

  • Moisture measured at the factory: below 14 %.
  • The chews are then vacuum-sealed to hold that level through sea freight and storage.
  • A 5-step QC process as the baseline, adjusted when an order has its own requirements.

What we commit to is no mold and no wood-boring insects. We do not promise that every piece will still measure below 14 % when it reaches your warehouse, because conditions after loading are outside the factory.

3. SGS heavy-element result for coffee wood

Since September 2026 we hold an SGS test result on heavy elements for our coffee wood chews.

  • Standard: ASTM F963-23, clause 4.3.5.
  • Eight elements tested: lead, antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, mercury and selenium.
  • Result: all eight not detected (ND).
  • The laboratory is VILAS-accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. That accreditation belongs to the laboratory, not to WINVN INT.

Two limits matter. The result covers coffee wood only; it does not cover our loofah, coco coir or hemp lines. And it is a result on the sample tested, not a certificate for a factory or a whole range. We also do not hold a caffeine test on coffee wood, so we make no caffeine claim.

4. Export documents with each shipment

We can prepare the export paperwork for each shipment: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading, Certificate of Origin (C/O), Phytosanitary Certificate and Fumigation Certificate.

On these documents the goods are described as “Wooden Pet Toy”. If your broker or marketplace expects a different description, raise it before the order is packed, not after.

What we do not have

We do not hold FSC, BSCI, ISO or REACH certification, and we will not print those marks or imply them on your packaging.

Certification is one of the first things buyers ask us about, and a vague answer helps nobody. If your retailer or market requires one of these, tell us at the start, before sampling, so you can decide early whether coffee wood from us fits your channel. We would rather you hear “no” on day one than discover it at your customs broker.

Use advice for your listing or packaging

Whatever a supplier can show you, the end user still needs clear instructions. This is general use advice, not a safety claim:

  • Supervise the dog while it chews.
  • Choose the size by the dog’s weight. Our coffee wood chew size guide matches each size to a weight band.
  • Replace the chew once it has worn small enough to be swallowed.
  • Take the chew away if a piece breaks off.

Keep dental and veterinary claims off your packaging too. Laser engraving, kraft or ivory packaging and labels printed from your files are covered on our OEM and ODM page, and the full coffee wood line is on our coffee wood chews page.

Safety questions from buyers

Do you describe coffee wood chews as splinter-free?
No. We make no claim about how any chew behaves under chewing, and we do not describe any chew as splinter-free. Test samples yourself before you set a listing.
Have your coffee wood chews been laboratory tested?
Yes, for heavy elements. SGS tested our coffee wood to ASTM F963-23 clause 4.3.5, and all eight elements tested were not detected. The result covers coffee wood only.
How do you control moisture, mold and insects?
Moisture is measured at the factory below 14 %, then the chews are vacuum-sealed. What we commit to is no mold and no wood-boring insects.
Which certifications do you hold?
We do not hold FSC, BSCI, ISO or REACH certification. Each shipment comes with a Commercial Invoice, Packing List and Bill of Lading, plus a Phytosanitary Certificate, Fumigation Certificate or Certificate of Origin when your market requires one. A Certificate of Origin depends on product eligibility.
